Much has been written about the 120,000 seasonal temporary workers Amazon will hire in 30 states this shopping season. Likewise, the WSJ reports that Radial will hire 35% more seasonal workers for fulfillment than in 2016 and XPO Logistics 20% more. And the Cyber 5 did not disappoint, with single day sales on Cyber Monday reaching an all time record just over $6.5B. Estimates now put the 2017 online holiday season sales figure at $107B. But just this week, Macy’s announced plans to bring an additional 7,000 temporary staff into their stores. And Target, planning to match last years temporary hiring bump of 70,000, has now decided to take that up to 100,000 in order to optimize the customer experience in their stores. The additional numbers are also needed as they report nearly a doubling of the ship-from-store parcels vs 2016.
